Sam, who has earned global recognition as “The Legendary Soul Man” is a GRAMMY Winner, the only South Floridian inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (circa 1992), The Grammy Hall of Fame Inductee in 1999 and recognized by The Library of Congress’s National Registry since 2019 for his hit “Soul Man”. Sam has performed for luminaries and dignitaries around the world including The Queen of England, Bishop Desmond Tutu and 6 of the 7 past Presidents of the United States. Among his other career accolades, Sam was awarded a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, a British MOBO Lifetime Achievement Award, The Memphis Rock and Soul Museum Lifetime Achievement Award, A Musical Note on Memphis’s famed Beale Street and A Star on Nashville’s Country Music Walk of Fame. Sam, at 86 years young, is still actively recording, making professional appearances while continuing to work tirelessly to secure Terrestrial AM/FM Broadcast Performance Rights for all American recording artists meeting Senators and Members of Congress, House and Senate Judiciary Committees to finally secure bill passage. The CARTA Medallion presented by The Tonkinson Foundation was established to recognize outstanding professionals who have demonstrated excellence in their represented fields through international recognition of their work and who have made an immediate and lasting impact to the local, national, and international community in positive ways.
