Request for Temporary Advisor Caseload Support

A college may request temporary caseload support from the Office of Academic Support Initiatives & Services (OASIS) when an advisor goes on leave or vacates their position. OASIS may provide caseload support via the Central Advisor for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks. As a baseline, OASIS will consider providing support to the population of students from the vacated caseload who are in freshmen and/or sophomore standing (as capacity permits). Depending on the number of requests received and the size of the associated caseloads, OASIS may redefine that population.

The college should submit their request for caseload support with as much advance notice as possible, ideally at least 2 weeks prior to the advisor’s leave. OASIS will review all requests and evaluate their capacity to provide support at that time. If approved, the college and OASIS will agree upon the duration of support, but either party may modify the end date should circumstances require it.

The Central Advisor will work with the population of students designated to them at the start of the assignment. They will not meet with prospective change of major students and will not sign change of program/plan forms for students requesting to come into the major. The Central Advisor will participate in campaigns related to freshmen and sophomore students, but will not participate in any other campaigns or projects, including orientation. They may participate in meetings or trainings directly related to their assignment.

The Central Advisor’s office is located in the SASC building and the position reports to Maria Walker, regardless of their assignment(s). Students assigned to the Central Advisor can meet with them virtually or in-person (in the SASC building). The requesting college will provide training to the Central Advisor prior to the start of the assignment and must identify a designated advising lead as their point of contact.
