Florida International University School of Music is pleased to announce the fourth annual FIU Percussion Day on Monday, February 15, 2021, from 3:00-6:00pm on Zoom. FIU Percussion Day is open to any middle school, high school, or college percussion student, band director, or percussion enthusiast who is interested in learning more about percussion! This year's Percussion Day will feature a clinic with FIU faculty member Dr. Karlyn Vina, performances by FIU Percussion Studio members, and will include an opportunity for students to work with Dr. Vina on Solo and Ensemble repertoire in a masterclass. About Dr. Karlyn Viña Praised by the South Florida Classical Review for her "dazzling" and "incisive" performance, Dr. Karlyn Viña s dynamic and creative percussionist who serves on the faculty at Florida International University School of Music in Miami. As a performer, Karlyn has a passion for solo, chamber, and orchestral percussion, with a particular interest in contemporary music. Karlyn has an active freelance career in South Florida, performing regularly with the Palm Beach Symphony and Florida Grand Opera. Dr. Viña also works with percussion students in Miami Music Project, South Florida Youth Symphony, and several school programs in both Miami-Dade County and Broward County. Additionally, she maintains a busy private studio in South Florida, teaching concert percussion, keyboard percussion, timpani and drum set. Karlyn serves on the Percussive Arts Society's Education Committee, has been published in the PAS Educators’ Companion, and can be heard as a co-host on the @Percussion Podcast. During the summers, Karlyn serves as a percussion faculty member at Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, MI.
